EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Welcome to Asian Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

Southrace is a four piece rock band formed in Cagayan de Oro City. The band comprised of Jovy Pestolante (lead vocals, lead guitar), Nilo Quitoriano (guitar, vocals), Ches Marie Baconguis (drums) and Glenn Oghayon (bass).

Their earliest works were influenced by Bisrock – a rock genre in Bisayan language, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as OPM rock and alternative rock.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

Released on July 5, 2023. Written by Jullienne Ilagan, “Secluded” is a over a four-minute suite from Southrace’s upcoming third album. The song speaks about the isolation and loneliness that many of us have felt during the pandemic.

What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?

With its haunting melody and emotive lyrics, “Secluded” is a powerful reminder of the power of music to connect us even when we are apart.

What is your favorite part of this song?

Shutters torn down at rusted window hinge
Cracked up pieces of paint falling down
Falling down, falling down like rain
Falling down, falling down like rain

Our favorite part besides the Chorus part are the notable vocal duet blends, the melodic guitar solo. and the female metal vocal twist by Nicole Salise of LILITH in the outro.

Currently, Southrace is creating songs for their upcoming album releases.
