EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Welcome to Asian Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

Hello! My name is Bema Tadey and I am a Filipino-American independent artist, born in Baguio City, Philippines. I am a singer, songwriter, and producer based in Washington, DC with roots grounded in Western Pop, R&B, and Filipino Music. My music has lead me to share stages with revered Filipino musicians such as Moira Dela Torre, Ice Seguerra, Silent Sanctuary, and Jay R.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

Released on October 20, 2023. “Tayong Dalawa” is a poignant new R&B Filipino hit that delves deep into the heartache of unrequited love. It is a powerful narrative of longing, wishing that feelings had been expressed before they grew too deep, as the one you loved found happiness in someone else’s arms. “Tayong Dalawa” is a heartfelt exploration of love’s complexities, resonating with anyone who has ever believed that their love would last until the end of time.

This project somehow mirrors a time in my life where I loved someone deeply and I felt they did as well, but I thought wrong. I was at a low mentally and emotionally. This song helped me put into words the things I wanted to tell that person that I loved and helped me move forward.

What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?

I would want my listeners to love themselves—or at least leave love for themselves when they love someone. Take things slow and make sure you are there for yourself in the process.

What is your favorite part of this body of work?

My favorite part of this body of work would be the bridge where the production gets bigger through the instruments. It feels like weight gets released off of your shoulders.

What’s next on your journey?

I am releasing two or three more singles before the end of the year.
I am also part of a Filipino music collective in Washington DC called the WRIZZARDS. We have headlined in SongByrd DC as well as gotten featured on the Washington Post and Spotify Editorial Playlists. With that being said, we have a show coming up on December 29, 2023 at Union Stage, Washington D.C.
